LANSING – State Representative Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) has been named to a new subcommittee that will work to ensure that Michigan leads the world in electric car development. The panel will be dedicated to creating good-paying jobs and bringing new businesses to the state by building on Michigan's leadership in the advanced battery industry.
"Michigan must do more to become the best state in the nation to do business," said Brown, who has been at the forefront of efforts to grow the advanced battery industry in Michigan. "It must be easier for businesses to locate in Michigan and create jobs for our workers. We need to make sure electric car production – the next generation of our auto industry – thrives in Michigan and succeeds in creating thousands of jobs. I look forward to this opportunity to make sure Michigan workers lead the world in this growing industry."
As part of her efforts to diversify Michigan's economy, Brown championed a plan to attract advanced battery and alternative energy companies to help redevelop the Ford plant in Wixom into a cutting-edge alternative energy park, which is expected to create about 3,000 jobs.
The new panel is a subcommittee of the House Energy and Technology Committee.
