LANSING – State Representative Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) is hosting a seminar to help local businesses learn how to bid on state and federal contracts and to find out about the resources available to help them succeed through the state's Buy Michigan First initiative. The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, at the Commerce Township Hall, 2009 Township Drive in Commerce Township.
"By helping local businesses learn how to compete for these government contracts, we can help retain and create the jobs we need to turn Michigan around," Brown said. "Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we need to provide them with the resources to succeed. I'm working to ensure that Oakland County companies have every business opportunity possible and can thrive in our community."
The event is free, but seating is limited and registration is required. Topics to be covered include:
- Contracting 101 with the State of Michigan: teaches vendors how to bid on state projects and how to access free state resources.
- Free Services from the PTACs of Michigan: Procurement Technical Assistance Centers provide bid matching services and bid response assistance, research and more.
- Free Services from SBTDCs of Michigan: Small Business and Technology Development Centers provide assistance with business and marketing plans, and financial and organizational assessments.
